Glastonbury Abbey Ruins

…from a quiet week to a busy one

Well it was a very busy week last week. Mel and I hired a car on Wednesday (25/3) and drove to Bath for a two day visit. We got there about 12pm and checked into our B&B which was awesome! It was about a 10 minute walk from the Roman Baths. The lady who owns the place was really nice. We talked to her for about 20 minutes then we set off to the city centre. We managed to find the Roman Baths and went straight in. They are really fascinating! We spent about 2hours wandering through the baths and I took a heap of photos.

After the Roman Baths we went to the Bath Abbey. We were hoping to go on the tower tour but we just missed out. We walked around inside the Abbey for about an hour.

After the Abbey we went for a massive walk around the rest of the city. We walked past the Royal Crescent and into the Botanical Gardens. Just past the Gardens was a massive playground. Mel and I couldn’t help ourselves, so we indulged in a little flying fox and slide rides. After the horseplay we walked back into the city.

The lady who owned the B&B suggested us to visit a certain pub for a cheap meal. Well it was cheap, but I’ve had better Lasagnas from a microwave packet. We ate early as I wanted to see if the Abbey/baths/bridge were lit up at night…but they weren’t :(, so it was back to the B&B

The next day was raining and freezing. As we missed out on the tower tour we went back but they canceled the morning ones so we had to wait around until 1pm. We didn’t know what to do in Bath for a couple of hours until 1pm, so we were thinking that we would just head off. We ending up hanging around looking at the shops and museums to pass time until the tower tour. I am glad we did because the tower tour was unreal! We walked up the immensely small 212 steps to the top. The view from the top was breathtaking. A full 360 degrees view of Bath. When that was finished we then had to walk back down the 212 steps. We got a great calf workout!

…the surprise

We got back to the room at 2 and left to go pick up Cate (Amy’s older sister) from the airport. She was a coming from Australia as a surprise for her Dads 50th party.

We hit London airport and there was an accident on the motorway, so we were stuck in stationary traffic for 20 minutes. We finally got to the airport in time and all was good.

When we got back to the house, Cate went in the side kitchen entrance and Mel and I went through the front door. We were telling everyone about our trip when Cate walked through from the kitchen. Everyone’s jaws hit the ground. Wish I had the video camera..

On Friday we were thinking of going to Stonehenge but we decided against it. I would still like to go, however I heard you can’t get anywhere near it, and it is fenced off. Since we still had the hire car, Mel and I decided we would still go somewhere, so we went to Glastonbury. The day was absolutely crap. It was raining and hailing. As soon as we got there we headed to the pub for a bite to eat. I had this massive 100% British beef burger, whilst Mel had pizza and chips. Straight after lunch we headed for the Glastonbury Abbey ruins. The whole area was phenomenal, but such a shame that it wasn’t looked after. Every now and then we had to head for cover as the heavens decided to throw sleet and hail at us. I managed to keep my 1000D camera dry and took some fantastic photos. We then returned home in time for John’s 50th.
